NTSA Names the Deadliest Days and Hours on Kenya’s Roads

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday have emerged as the three most dangerous days on Kenyan roads, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority’s (NTSA) July 2026 Road Safety Status Report. The three-day weekend window accounted for over 50 percent of all road crashes recorded in July 2026. The NTSA Status Report also flagged the hours between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm as a high-risk window, with the single deadliest hour recorded from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, which accounted for 37 fatalities during the month. “Weekend travel remains a significant road safety challenge requiring enhanced enforcement and public education campaigns,” the Authority noted. Casualty Rates and Risk Factors Total road traffic victims rose 9.78 percent year-on-year, climbing from 1,974 in July 2025 to 2,167 in July 2026.
